Bordering Tartan, 2022
‘Bordering Tartan’ is a body of work investigates the margin of identity that zooms into the cultural and geographical narrative around the Anglo-Scottish border. This work quotes the black-and-white check plaid, known as the shepherds plaid or border tartan, as a cultural artefact and
a signifier of this specific border heritage. This work looks for a space in-between of a dualistic division, whether geographically, emotionally or graphically. The distribution and commodification of this regional design in relation to clothing, fashion and trend through time touches the intersection of heritage and identity (both individually and in group) in relation to globalisation and capitalism.
